Setup & Plans

This is one of six groups these docs use purely to make Claude's capabilities easier to browse — every Planner deployment gives Claude all of them together. There's no setting to turn a group on or off individually.

This is the "which budget, and who am I" layer — the tools Claude uses to find your budget and confirm the connection is working, rather than anything you'd typically ask about directly.

What you can ask

  • "Which YNAB budgets can you see?"
  • "Confirm you're connected to my YNAB account."
  • "What are the date and currency settings on my budget?"

Claude uses this information mostly in the background — for example, to work out which budget to use before answering a question about your accounts or transactions.

Which budget Claude uses

YNAB calls a budget a "plan." If you have more than one plan, Claude defaults to whichever one YNAB itself considers your most recently used plan. If you want Claude to work against a specific plan instead — for example, you have separate personal and household budgets — just say so in your request (e.g. "using my household budget, what's..."), and Claude will ask which plan if it isn't already obvious.

A note on "am I connected"

If you ask Claude something simple like "are you connected to my YNAB account?", it's checking basic connectivity, not pulling any details about you — it doesn't have access to your name, email, or any profile information from YNAB, only your budget data.
