Accounts
This is one of six groups these docs use purely to make Claude's capabilities easier to browse — every Planner deployment gives Claude all of them together. There's no setting to turn a group on or off individually.
Claude can look up your accounts and, with write access, create new ones.
What you can ask
- "List my accounts and their current balances."
- "Add a new checking account called 'Joint Checking'."
- "Which of my accounts are credit cards?"
Account types
When creating a new account, Claude will use one of YNAB's basic account types: checking, savings, cash, credit card, other asset, or other liability. Some accounts you see when listing your accounts may show up as a more specific type — like a line of credit, mortgage, auto loan, student loan, personal loan, or medical debt — because YNAB assigns those more detailed types once an account exists (often through bank-linked import). Those specific types aren't something you can pick when creating a brand-new account through Claude; they're something YNAB assigns afterward.
