Payees
This is one of six groups these docs use purely to make Claude's capabilities easier to browse — every Planner deployment gives Claude all of them together. There's no setting to turn a group on or off individually.
A payee is who a transaction is to or from — a store, a company, a person. Claude can look these up and, with write access, create new ones and rename existing ones.
What you can ask
- "List my payees."
- "Have I ever paid 'Acme Plumbing' before?"
- "Add a new payee called 'Corner Bakery'."
- "Rename the payee 'AMZN Mktp US' to 'Amazon'."
Renaming a payee
With write access, Claude can rename an existing payee. Renaming changes the payee itself, not one transaction — every past and future transaction attached to that payee shows the new name. That makes it the right tool for tidying up the cryptic names a bank import produces, turning "SQ *CORNER BAKERY" into "Corner Bakery" everywhere at once.
Payees are shared, not per-account
The same payee can show up on transactions across all of your accounts — "Amazon" isn't tied to one particular checking or credit card account. Because of that, if you ask Claude to record a transaction to a payee that already exists (even under a slightly different name, like "Amazon.com" vs. "Amazon"), it's worth confirming which existing payee to use rather than creating a near-duplicate.
Payee locations are read-only
Some payees have location data attached — bank-provided information YNAB's mobile app uses to place pins on a map. Claude can look this up, but there's no way to create or edit it through Claude: it comes from YNAB itself (via your linked bank), not from anything you or Claude enter.
